Ko’olau Pets 50th Anniversary Salebration

In 1974, Mel and Napua Furtado opened the first Ko‘olau Pets store on Kamehameha Highway and it quickly became a popular stop for those in the community with pets. In 1982, the store moved to the upper level of Windward Mall next to Sears. Ko‘olau Pets was one of the first stores at Windward Mall, giving the family a front-row seat to new openings as they watched the center quickly, become the gathering place for Windward O‘ahu. In 2014 Mel and Napua Furtado retired, leaving the business to their son Matt Furtado and nephew Robert Lawrence. It’s been a long and hard road for everyone at Ko‘olau Pets filled with lots of hard work, commitment, and the ability to adapt quickly. Today, we celebrate this amazing milestone with them.
